Winter 2017-2018 Registration is Open!

Winter 2017-2018 Season: WAFFL has decided to offer a winter flag football season this year for all you die-hard, cold-weather-loving players. Heeding feedback and suggestions from many of you, below are some new features of WAFFL’s Winter 2017-2018 Season that may help you decide who you’d like to play with this winter:

Same Low Price: WAFFL will continue to offer the lowest price in town: $627 per team regardless of roster size.  Comparatively, other leagues’ advertised team fees are $800-$960 per team.

Free Agency: WAFFL will now offer registration for Free Agent players who do not have a team, or enough players to form a full team.  The Free Agent price is $63 per player.  Comparatively, our competitors’ advertised Free Agent fees are $75-$85 per player.  In order to avoid potential forfeit scenarios, all Free Agent teams will require a minimum of 10 players (6 men and 4 women) to be included.  Conversely, in order to ensure maximum play-time per player, Free Agent teams will be tentatively capped at 14 players (8 men and 6 women).  No team? No problem!

Winter Schedule: Our Winter 2017-2018 schedule is now posted on our Schedule/Standings page and social media pages (follow us on FBTwitter, and IG!).  Our winter season will run Sat. 12/2/17 through Sat. 2/10/18, with games played between 10am and 12pm. Our registration window will stay open until the Wednesday, November 15th, 2017 deadline – so act quickly!  As always, WAFFL will never hold games on holiday weekends such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, or MLK Day.  You’ve worked hard for your 3-day holiday weekends – go enjoy them.

Early Bird Discount: WAFFL is offering a 10% Early Bird discount to any/all teams and Free Agents who complete registration and full-payment prior to 11:59PM EST on Wednesday, October 18th, 2017. Early Bird team price: $570. Early Bird Free Agent price: $57.

Registration Down Payment: We know some times you need more time to collect dues from your teammates before completing your team payment.  As such, WAFFL is now accepting a $100 down payment to reserve your team’s spot in any upcoming season.  Simply register with us via email, electronically send us your $100 down payment, then complete the rest of your team payment before the registration deadline on Wednesday, November 15th, 2017.

Player Stats: Do you love fantasy football?  So do we!  While it’s not exactly fantasy football, WAFFL is excited to announce that we will be tracking individual player statistics starting this winter season.  WAFFL referees will keep track of passing TDs, receiving/rushing TDs, “sacks,” and interceptions each game and during the course of the season.  Updates will be posted regularly on our social media pages highlighting the respective leaders for each category.  Do you have what it takes to lead the league in TDs this winter?  Prove it.

Game Photos: We know you love seeing yourself and your team in action, so WAFFL has booked an experienced sports photographer to come capture some of your favorite moments.  Photos will be periodically posted onto the WAFFL Facebook page for everyone to view and tag as they see fit.  It’s not official unless it’s on Facebook.

WAFFL will continue to host our flag football games on Saturdays on the immaculate, synthetic turf fields located at the Washington National Cathedral in NW Washington, DC.  WAFFL is also proud to be partnering with Tenley Bar and Grill to offer post-game food and drink specials for all WAFFL players.

Fall 2017 Registration Is Open!

WAFFL is excited to announce that registration for the Fall 2017 season beginning Sat. 9/16/17 is now open! Welcome to WAFFL!

Hello DMV area flag footballers!

It is my great pleasure to announce the creation of the Washington Area Flag Football League (WAFFL): the DC area’s newest and most customer-oriented co-ed flag football league.  As an avid flag football player for over 8 years, I quickly grew tired of the high costs, inconsistent fields, unqualified referees, and poor customer service offered by big, corporate social sports leagues. Instead, I decided to create my own non-profit flag football league of the players, by the players, and for the players.

WAFFL’s inaugural season is set to kick-off this Fall 2017. WAFFL’s seasons will include the following features:

– 6 guaranteed regular season games, and 2 rounds of playoff games per season. All teams will receive a playoff bid.

– Fall, spring, and summer leagues are currently planned. A winter league is possible pending interest from enough teams

– The league will be located in Cleveland Park, Washington DC at the National Cathedral School (NCS). All games will be played on beautiful synthetic turf fields

– All games will be played on Saturdays from 1-3PM

– No games will be played on any federal holiday weekends (Veteran’s Day, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving, etc.)

– No games will be played on inclement weather days

–  The league will be 20-40% CHEAPER than any other DC-area leagues’ advertised prices

– Better-trained and more dependable referees and administrative staff

– Post-game drink and food specials at a nearby host bar

– End of season parties with drink and food specials at the host bar

– Similar rules/format as competitors’ leagues, but with some competitive modifications (e.g. a gender scoring bonus)
